The annexation of Crimea by Russia on March 18 of that year unleashed a series of movements that have made this war in Ukraine an international conflict.
Diplomats from the United States and Russia re u nen Monday in Geneva for the first of a series of talks aimed at breaking the deadlock over Ukraine , as part of the bilateral strategic dialogue mechanism created in 2021.
The delegations are led by the US Undersecretary of State, Wendy Sherman, and by the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Riabkov, who held a first meeting in the Swiss city on Sunday.
After the meeting, a working dinner, Riabkov said that the talks are likely to be difficult.
NATO and the European Union see in this former Soviet republic a potential ally, while the Kremlin fears that Kiev will move further away from Moscow.
